WiseFeed co-organize mini-symposium “Modelling approaches in aquafeeds evaluation”

SPAROS Lda (www.sparos.pt) and the WiseFeed project (https://wisefeed.w.uib.no) will organize the Mini-symposium “Modelling approaches in aquafeeds evaluation”, as a satellite event to the 18th International Symposium on Fish Nutrition and Feeding, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Spain).

The Mini-symposium will take place at the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus (same venue as the ISFNF 2018) on Monday June 4th, 2018 from 18:00 to 20:00. Please find enclosed the Mini-symposium Program.

BIOMIN expect that the press release also will be published on Intrafish, Aquafeed and All About Feed.

WiseFeed arrange a series of Workshops

As part of the dissemination activity in WiseFeed the project arrange a series of Workshops where project results are presented, data discussed and where relevant research areas are examined. The Workshops are arranged at different partner insititutions.

The fourth Workshop in the series were arranged this October at the University of Bergen. The Workshop was arranged in collaboration with researchers working in the RCN funded project no Guts no Glory. The agenda for the Workshop can be found here: WISEFEED Project_4th mini workshop

First secondment in WiseFeed

Hoang

Dr. Minh Hoang Le, a post doc from NTU, Vietnam, has conducted the first secondment in the WiseFeed project. His secondment was part of  WP4 ”Optimizing the growth and N-retention in cobia under increasing water temperatures- the role of methionine”. During the secondment Hoang has been working at SPAROS and received extensive training in formulation of fish diets and together with staff at SPAROS also produced the feed required for the experiments in this WP.

The main objective of WP4 is test to what extent elevated water temperatures increase the requirement for dietary methionine in cobia. The applied aspect is to generate the data that permits to maximise growth and N-retention in cobia. This will be done in two series of experiments with groups of cobia (juveniles) using different levels of dietary methionine and different temperature conditions. All the fish trials will be conducted by NTU in Vietnam starting in May 2016 with secondments of UIB, NIFES, CCMAR, and CSIC. The nutritional and molecular analysis of fish and feeds will later be conducted as secondments by staff from NTU to UIB and NIFES. In the fall, Dr Hoang will then spend 4 months in Norway to receive training and conduct analysis of samples from the experiment

New RISE applicants to learn from WiseFeed

WiseFeed was one of two RISE projects funded in 2015 with a Norwegian coordinator. Based on this Prof I. Rønnestad was invited by National Contact Points (Per M. Kommandantvold) at The Research Council of Noway (RCN) to give a lecture and present the WiseFeed project and his experiences with new applicants for 2016. RCN were particularly interested to learn more about strategic descisions that were made qand implemented in the application. At the same meeting Mr. Fredrik Olsson Hector, Head of Unit, The Research Executive Agency (REA) gave more information on RISE 2016.
